Metal detectors, such as, walkthrough metal detectors, handheld metal detectors, and ground searching metal detectors are also known as magnatometers. These metal detectors have become very affordable and are readily available for deployment.
Walkthrough metal detectors are generally used to detect weapons at security checkpoints; however, they are also used for loss prevention. Handheld metal detectors are used by themselves for weapon detection, or in conjunction with walkthrough metal detectors to pinpoint detected contraband. Many facilities are even using handheld metal detectors and walkthrough metal detectors to minimize their exposure to sexual harassment lawsuits. Ground searching metal detectors are used for treasure hunting, mine detection, buried contraband detection, food inspections, and package inspections.
